That Silambarasan TR and Gautham Karthik are coming together for Obeli N Krishna’s film is known. Now, the latest is that the film has been titled Pathu Thala, and will go on floors in February. Krishna says, “When you say pathu thalai, you immediately think of Raavanan. Simbu’s character is also on similar lines. So, we thought the title fits the film perfectly.”
Talking about the characterisation of his lead artistes, he says, “Simbu is a very powerful man. He is a man of few words. Even Gautham’s character is a silent, brooding man, who has a different take on life. But both of them have to forcefully form a bond and be together. That pull-and-push between their characters will be quite interesting. I can say, this is a political mafia thriller.”
Interestingly, the film is a remake of the Kannada hit Mufti, and Narthan, who helmed the original, was roped in to make the Tamil one as well. “It’s Narthan’s story, but I rewrote it in my style. The script has changed and the screenplay is also different. So, Pathu Thala is more like an adaptation of Mufti,” says Krishna. Narthan had also shot the film for a few days. Will he retain some of those footages? “They had shot for only 10 days. So, I may retain a scene or two, but I will be reshooting a lot of stuff, especially because the script has changed a bit. Simbu will also be sporting a new look now for his part,” says Krishna, adding, “I’m thrilled to be on board this project, especially because Gnanavelraja, who is bankrolling this project is the one who produced my debut film, Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. We are celebrating 14 years of that film and are also teaming up for this film. It’s like going back to my home.”
The team will be filming the movie mostly in Kanyakumari district. “Simbu doesn’t have a pair in the film. We are in the process of finalising the rest of the cast and crew, and are trying to get some big names in the team,” he signs off
