It was announced some time ago that Gautham Vasudev Menon and Silambarasan TR will reunite for a film, which will have music by AR Rahman. While the team had announced the title as Nadhigalilae Neeradum Suriyan earlier, they have now changed it to Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu. The first look of Silambarasan from the film has piqued the curiosity of fans. The actor is seen in a menacing and rugged look, donning a shirt and lungi, whilst holding a stick and is seen walking away from a burning forest.
Giving us details about the film, producer Ishari K Ganesh tells us, “The film is a rural action drama. Though I can’t reveal details about STR’s role, I can say that this is a character he hasn’t done before. He has lost nearly 15 kilos for the role and is looking much younger now. He had a special instructor for the film and has been working on this look for the last six months. He will be performing a lot of stunts, too, and is training for the same.”
Ishari also reveals that the story is by writer Jeyamohan. “Gautham came to me with his story and we really liked it. We have begun shooting in Tiruchendur. This will be followed by schedules in Chennai and Mumbai,” he informs. Ask him about the title change and he says, “Nadhigalilae neeradum suriyan is a line from a song in Kaakha Kaakha. Earlier, we thought it would be apt for the script. Later, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu a line from Bharathiyar’s poetry seemed more apt for the script. This year also marks Bharathiyar’s 100th death anniversary, so this will be more like our tribute to him.” While Radikaa Sarathkumar plays STR’s mother, details of the remaining star cast will be announced soon.
